Artist Talk: Philip Neuberger (finsterbusch collective)
Markéta Pščolková and Philip Neuberger

Philip Neuberger (any pronoun or none) works at the intersection of theater, dance, artistic research, and performance, holding both organizational and creative roles. As part of their MA in Expanded Theater at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB) she increasingly explored gender as performance and collective forms of work. Since founding finsterbusch collective, an interdisciplinary performance group, in 2020, Neuberger has been working for them as an artist as well as a production manager. In 2021, an assistantship at the Kunstverein Last Tango brought him to Zurich. 2022 they did a residency at DOGO Residency for New Art in Lichtensteig, St. Gallen. Within the past year Neuberger and finsterbusch collective have organized several variety shows – at the Zentralwäscherei, Baby Angel and at the Zürcher Theaterspektakel. Since 2023 Neuberger is part of the core team of Designathon and operational manager of Zurich’s “uncurated space for dance + theater” Brücki 235.

finsterbusch collective is an international, interdisciplinary performance group that takes a critical look at the present, the interpersonal and artistic collaboration within a neoliberal economy. Founded by people on the threshold between their education and their career, finsterbusch collective is an attempt to start an artistic path together and to provide a critical counter-design to the trope of the solo-artist-genius. Currently they are working on ways of creating platforms for artistic exchange through a modernised version of the variety show genre.
